About Us

ourhistory

United Methodist Ministries was formed in 1966 by the United Methodist Church in Nebraska. Through the years, the focus at UMM has always been addressing social justice issues in the Omaha metro area, often serving as a collaborator and bridge between non-profits. Past endeavors have included fair housing, broadcasting and after school programs; Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON) immigration clinic came to Nebraska in partnership with UMM. More recently UMM has founded the Big Garden and Big Rural Garden, helped develop the Blue Flamingo Thrift store, and has been credentialed as a United Methodist Volunteer in Mission (VIM) site.  Our programming range has widened geographically as well, to include Southeast Nebraska in an area that extends roughly from the Missouri River to Fremont, and from Blair to Falls City.

United Methodist Ministries has received a number of awards, including the 2008 Nonprofit Association of the Midlands Non-profit Innovation award, the 2009 Nebraska Governor's Point of Light, and the 2010 Nebraska First Lady's Outstanding Community Service Award.
